Planning your Patio Cover
Did you ever decide that you wanted to add a patio cover to the back of your home but unsure of size, dimensions, functionality and availability of space? Here are some helpful ideas when coming up with your patio cover plan.
Local Codes and Regulations
When figuring out the size you want first make sure that you are following the City Permit Codes. Normally they are easements surrounding your home, generally 5ft from the side walls (easements) and setbacks are 15ft from the back walls. (Check with your local codes where you live) Most of the time attaching to your home allows the cover to be part of your home which makes it more functional too, less posts to deal with in the outdoor space.
Furniture and Decor
Looking at the amount of furniture you want to have in the space, for instance, four chairs and a table. General rule of thumb, I would give at least 3 feet by 3 feet surrounding each chair, this will enable the person sitting to move around comfortably. If you make the concrete and or cover too narrow whey will not have enough room to move about and will be limited by space. So I normally recommend a 10x14 cover which will accommodate a table(4x4) and four chairs easily.
Take the time to make a plan and determine what you would like to use this space for whether it be for relaxing, outdoor entertaining, large family gatherings or just dinners for four people, once you determine your outdoor use then you can perfect your outdoor space and have a functional space that will provide years of enjoyment.
